by joni taylor Meet James Wells, the newly appointed principal of Caldwell Parish High School. He served as Assistant Principal for the 2016-2017 school year. Wells started his 20 year career in the Caldwell Parish School District at the Alternative School when he was hired by Martha Lou Simons. He has taught Health, World History, Sports Medicine, and has served as the Athletic Trainer for the sports programs. Wells is a National Board Certified Athletic Trainer.

The Sports Medicine class he taught was geared towards teaching students how to take care of and treat sports related injuries. Wells has spent his entire career as a teacher, coach, Assistant Principal and now Principal at Caldwell Parish High School. His wife, Kristy Wells, works at the high school as a Guidance Counselor. His youngest son, Brady, is 13 and will be in the 8th grade at Caldwell Parish Junior High this year. His oldest son, Tyler, who is 18 just graduated with the class of 2017.

Wells said it was such an honor to present his own son with his diploma during the graduation ceremony. Wells said he is very excited to be appointed and is looking forward to the new school year. He said that the school is so close to achieving an A school status and he hopes that he can help them to move toward that. Wells wants to create committees to help in achieving the goals they have. He wants every teacher, every employee involved and making decisions together.

He also hopes to get the community more involved to help achieve the goals they have set forth. He wants the community to be proud of the school they have. A resident alligator hunter must either own land or have permission to hunt alligators on land that is classified as wetland habitat in order to qualify for alligator harvest tags. The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries issues harvest tags for property containing sufficient alligator habitat capable of sustaining an alligator harvest. Alligator hunters apply for alligator tags prior to the season.

An alligator hunter license applicant must submit the following: A completed alligator hunter license application form including the hunter information (name, date of birth, drivers license Proof of property ownership (tax receipts or bill of sale) containing Parish, Township, Range, Section and acreage infor- mation, A map outlining the property to be hunted, and A signature indicating permission for the hunter to harvest alligators on the property. If applicable a legal alligator hunting lease may be submitted. Individuals interested in obtaining alligator harvest information on private lands (what is considered alligator habitat, does my property qualify for alligator tags, requirements, etc.) should contact the corresponding responsible for administering alligator harvests on private lands for the parish in which the property is located. Legal dates to hunt alligator are: East Zone Opens last Wednesday in August (season lasts 30 calendar days); West Zone Opens first Wednesday of September (season lasts 30 calendar days). Resident alligator hunting licenses cost $25 and there is no cost for alligator tags.

Residents not possessing or having permission to harvest alligators on private lands or public can harvest alligators as an alligator sport hunter while accompanied by a guide. Non-residents can only harvest alligators as an alligator sport hunter while accompanied by a guide. A guide must be an alligator hunter possessing tags. An alligator Sport Hunter License cost $25 for Louisiana residents and $150 for nonresidents. Public Lands and Lakes Residents not possessing or having permission to harvest alligators on private lands may be able to harvest alligators on public lands or lakes.

There are many public lands and lakes available for alligator harvest opportunities. These public are managed by many different entities ranging from local parish governments to federal governmental agencies. Methods in which alligator hunters are chosen for these areas include bidding and lotteries. Act 413 of the 2017 Regular Session of the Louisiana Legislature fully funds the tax credit to cover eligible costs for qualifying systems purchased and installed on or before December 31, 2015. Credit payments will be issued in equal installments over three consecutive fiscal years: 2017-2018, 2018-2019 and 2019-2020.

The first payments will be issued between December 2017 and January 2018. Louisiana taxpayers who purchased qualifying systems, and who did not submit solar tax credit claims previously, must file their claims by August 31, 2017. Claims must be filed electronically by submitting an original or amended state income tax return for the year in which the system was purchased and installed. All claims must be submitted with supporting documentation, as required by law. Taxpayers who submitted claims that were denied because of the cap should not re-submit.

Kennedy left the position when he was elected as a United States Senator. Qualifying ended on July 14, 2017. One of the qualifiers is local resident and United States Senator, Neil Riser. He is considered one of three to be a top contender for the election. The other two are former Representative John Schroder, who previously worked in law enforcement from St.

Tammany Parish and Angele Davis, who was a state budget administrator for two previous gover- nors. All three top contenders are Republicans. Others qualifying for the treasurer position are: Ron Ceasar, Independent from Opelousas, Derrick Edwards, Democrat from New Orleans, Terry Hughes, Republican from Lafayette, and Joseph Little, Libertarian from Ponchatoula. The election will be held on October 14, 2017 in an Open Primary. Early voting begins on Saturday, September 30, 2017 and ends on Saturday, October 7, 2017.
